ISTAÇ (Istanbul Environment Management Company) is 100% owned by Great Istanbul Municipality. The Company runs and manages two Solid waste Treatment plants in the European side and the Asian Side. The leachate water 4000 M3/day with 16,000 mg/L COD must be treated before it is discharged to the sewage lines. The Treatment plant in the Asian Side was using Surface Aerators that became inefficient with high energy cost. ISTAÇ wanted to replace the aerators by efficient diffusers without interrupting the plant´s operation.

Ideal Solutions Company supported by Environmental Dynamics International (EDI)´s Technology was able to replace the Aerators smoothly without interrupting the plant´s operation.
41 Diffusers were assembled in a single panel near the leachate pool. High capacity air blowers supplied the diffusers with air through durable flexible piping system .Since it was impossible to fix the diffusers to the pool floor, the panels should sink and rest on the floor by their own weights. The diffusers’ panels were extremely light and could not sink by their own weights, to counter the water´s buoyant force each panel was fixed to a specially designed metal frame weighing more than 1300 kg each and sunk in the pool. Whie the plant kept working as usual, replacement operation was successfully completed in less than 2 weeks while the plant kept .
