Lamella clarifiers are a water treatment process that features a core of inclined metal plates, which cause flocculated material to precipitate from water that flows across the plates, thus “clarifying” the water.

The Lamella Clarifier consists of a series of closely spaced flat plates inclined at an angle. Preconditioned water with entrained solids enters the plate pack and flows between the plates. The path length, plate spacing, and angle of the plate are the usual engineering variables. Plates can be made from MPVC, PP or SS depending on the purpose of the Lamella.
In a lamella clarifier, the water is forced upward through the inclined plates, yet the particles still settle and move in the opposite direction to the flow of the water. This again is due to the gravitational pull on the particles.
Under standard operating conditions and with addition of coagulants and flocculants, lamella clarifiers can achieve more than 90% suspended solids removal.
Lamella clarifiers have no moving parts which means that other than the inlet and sludge pumps, there is minimal energy input required.
